The inflammatory response to a foreign body within transplantable tumors.

چکیده
Several transplantaDitmouse and rat tumors were injured in a reproducible manner by implanting a length of cotton thread in their substance. Normal tissues, including liver, spleen, kidney, and subcutaneous connective tissue, were treated similarly. At the end of 1 week tissues containing thread were removed for histologie study. Consistent ly, the inflammatory response to the foreign body within the neoplasms was minimal as compared with the normal tissues. Although the tumors varied considerably in archi tecture and origin, differences in inflammatory response among the tumor types were not evident. A rapidly growing nonmalignant tissue, regenerating liver after partial hepatectomy, responded like the normal tissues after 7 days' exposure to the thread.

Induction of micronuclei in a transplantable murine tumor after multimodality treatment with cis-platin, radiation and hyperthermia
Background: Tumor response after multimodality treatment using combination of radiation, chemotherapeutic drugs and hyperthermia usually assessed by parameters such as tumor growth delay, volume doubling time and regression response. The study herein was conducted to investigate the usefulness of micronucleus assay for assessing the multimodality treatment. Materials and Methods: The ...
متن کاملDisordered function of mononuclear phagocytes in malignant disease.
In previous reports there have been scattered references to possible disorders in function of macrophages in malignant disease. For example, a decrease in macrophage numbers was reported in skin window exudates of patients with Hodgkin's granuloma,' while the foreign body inflammatory response within a variety of transplantable tumours in subcutaneous sites in rodents was found to be minimal.2 ...
متن کاملCancer Immunity 1:6 (2001) - REFLECTION
One of the great surprises of my first stay in the US during the fall of 1950 concerned the so-called "transplantable tumors" and their "immunology". During the first part of the 20th century, cancer researchers spoke about transplantable and non-transplantable tumors. The mice and rats were not inbred and transplantability therefore meant transgression of histocompatibility barriers, but most ...

Introduction: Various lesions trigger an inflammatory response in the host body. These injuries include surgical stress Surgery exerts stress on the body. Systemic inflammatory syndrome is a reflection of the degree of surgical stress and as a system of assessing the severity of postoperative stress. Regular complexes of inflammatory polypeptide molecules contribute to the development of this i...
متن کاملTranslational Insights on Lung Transplantation: Learning from Immunology
The introduction of ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) in the practice of lung transplantation has allowed the reconditioning of the marginal grafts and their conversion into transplantable grafts. In addition, EVLP can provide a platform for the application of various preventive measures to decrease the incidence of post-transplant complications. While the Toronto team targets the attenuation of th...
